Our organisation
The Thornbury Volunteer Centre was originally established in 1988 as the Thornbury & District Volunteer Link. It later became a registered charity and in November 2018, transitioned into a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) under its current name.
The Centre's activities are overseen by a management committee. We are based in the Town Hall in Thornbury and the office is staffed by a team of volunteer co-ordinators who work with our Development Co-ordinator, Lorna McCarthy.
Our area
We serve Thornbury and its surrounds, primarily the BS35, BS32 and GL12 postcodes of South Gloucestershire.
Links with the community
We promote good practice to organisations that use volunteers through our health check, our Good Practice Guide and a support package of low-cost training. Through our activities, we increase awareness of the issues that affect volunteering.
We are a member of the Volunteer Centre Partnership South Gloucestershire, which is a collaborative initiative led by CVS South Gloucestershire to support, develop and promote volunteering and the local voluntary sector.
We work alongside CVS South Gloucestershire, Southern Brooks, South Gloucestershire Council, and Thornbury Town Council to shape strategic thinking and planning at both regional and national levels. Through active participation in campaigns, we ensure local voices are heard on issues that impact volunteering.

Our office in the Town Hall is staffed by local volunteer coordinators and by the Development Coordinator. We are open every weekday morning (except public holidays) from 10.30-12.00.
