Progressio

The opportunity

Progressios faith-based programme, ICS Empower, gives volunteers from a range of faith backgrounds the chance to spend 10 weeks in Malawi, El Salvador or Peru, volunteering with local community organisations.
You will spend three months making a real difference to the lives of some of the worlds poorest people. Each project is designed to bring about lasting change for very poor communities, and as a volunteer with ICS, you will get the opportunity to contribute directly to this change. ICS volunteers will work in groups on projects run by local development organisations and in some placements will work alongside young local volunteers.
Volunteers have to be 18-22 years old, or 23+ if they agree to be a 'team leader' with some pastoral responsibility.
Volunteers will spend 10 weeks in Malawi, Peru or El Salvador.
The project is heavily subsidised, but some volunteers will have to pay a contribution. This is means-tested so some volunteers will pay nothing but others will pay up to 2000.
Apply now for departures in October 2011 and January 2012.
Progressio is an international development agency inspired by Catholic roots, ICS Empower is an inter-faith, faith sensitive programme, exploring faith and development and we are looking for applications from all faiths and none.

The organisation

The International Citizen Service (ICS) is a global volunteering experience which supports young people from all backgrounds to make a real difference to some of the worlds poorest people. This new initiative funded by the Department for International Development (DFID), will give thousands of 18-22 year olds across the UK the chance to join in the fight against global poverty. Places are also available for some team leaders (over 22 year olds) who will mentor the other volunteers and contribute their skills and experience.
