The opportunity
How does this role make a difference?
By campaigning, you will help raise awareness of dementia, in particular, facilitating the communication of national and local campaigns to local external stakeholders (general public, health professionals, MPs, councillors etc).
What will you be doing?
o Distributing campaigning material and encouraging people to take campaigning action
o Communicating/engaging with Society staff, volunteers and members
o Communicating/engaging with external stakeholders such as the general public, health professionals, MPs, councillors, partner organisations
o Representing the Society, as agreed with the External Affairs Manager at appropriate events and forums
o Facilitating the recruitment of new volunteers to the campaign network
o Supporting the delivery of national campaigns at local level
o Helping to generate new ideas for campaigns in response to the local environment
o Collecting and updating campaign material
o Carrying out a wide range of campaigning activities depending on interests, for example writing letters and press releases, attending events, or arranging meetings to further local campaigning activity
o Monitoring the media and identifying media opportunities.
The organisation
Day centre for younger people with dementia(under 70). Telephone line & home visits for families who need support
Free advice on legal issues. Carers fund. Support groups, drop-ins, social events
'After Dementia' fund for those who are no longer caring
Research (Quality Research in Dementia)
Skills/Qualifications
No special qualifications or experience needed. The role may be ideal for you if:
o You are enthusiastic about creating change for the benefit of those affected by dementia
o You feel passionately about dementia
o You enjoy being able to influence change
o You have good communication skills
o You are able to use your own initiative and also work as part of a team, often at a distance from any practical support
o You understand the need for confidentiality
o You follow all Society guidance and procedures, particularly protocols on working with the media and campaigning standards.
