The opportunity

Both long term and occasional befriending opportunities arise. Volunteers are needed to visit an older person who is living on their own and need companionship and possible some simple errands run. Volunteers will visit in their own time on a regular basis and form an ongoing relationship. Befriending is designed to develop a mutually rewarding relationship that is unique and supportive.

The organisation

Age Concern work with a team of volunteers undertaking gardening, decorating and other minor home maintenance practical tasks, befriending, day care and computrer training. They offer an information and advice service to the elderly in South Glos.

Skills/Qualifications

Volunteers need to be reliable, flexible and have a non-judgemental attitude. Good communication skills, patience and an understanding of and empathy with the needs of older people.
